Writing Challenge: Day 6

DAY #6: Five ways to win your heart

“I will burn the heart out of you.”
“I have been reliably informed that I don’t have one.”
Moriarty and Sherlock, Sherlock Holmes (S1E3)

So, yeah, “five ways to win my heart” is more like five ways to win... nothing.
Here, I tell you how to make me find you attractive instead.
  1. Let’s talk about something I’m interested in, like how House could not be considered misantrophic, or whether internet should use capitalized I or not. Or tell me your best jokes and make me laugh uncontrollably.
  2. Sing something, beautifully—sing with me, but never for me—and let’s call it an accidental show-off.
  3. A. If I’m drunk, stare at me deeply when you smile for more than 3 seconds.
    B. If I’m not, deeply still, but not too long. You’ll scare the hell out of me.
  4. Be confident like you know exactly what you’re doing, but NEVER act like you know you’re cute.
  5. I’ll know if you fake anything.
That’s all, folks.

What does the rain do
besides playing the Oasis' songs on repeat
or recalling the softness of your striped blanket
wrapped around my cold, cold feet?

Myeongdong
So when I was in Seoul drinking with my colleagues, I had this epiphany.

"This is what we don't have back in Indonesia," I said.
"We don't drink with colleagues. As the matter of fact, we don't drink. But this is what we actually need. You need to let it loose when you want to get to know somebody who is not your friend; and drinks surely help, right?"

I'm sure those were not the exact words, I was kinda light-headed so there might be an inappropriate joke in between, but, yeah, you get the point.

Writing Challenge: Day 3

Maafkan ketidakkonsistenanku.

So,
DAY #3: What are your top three pet peeves?
  1. Being rudely interrupted. I do get mad when people do this. There was this video of me secretly recorded by a friend when I received a call from mbak-mbak kartu kredit and got rudely interrupted. I didn't yell at her, but I did my "Sebentar, Mbak, saya masih bicara" in the tone of "Shut the fuck up, bitch."
  2. Good books with terrible grammar. Especially Indonesian books in which si penulis nggak bisa bedain "di" preposisi dan "di-" imbuhan; atau pakai kata "acuh" untuk menggantikan kata "cuek"; KBBI daring kan gratis.
  3. Dimwits who queue right in front of the elevator doors. WHY JUST WHY.
Extras:
  • Pushy people who obsess to have everyone agree upon his argument
  • When "literally" used in figurative sentences
  • Spitting in public
  • Three blank posts in a row on Instagram
  • Close-mindedness
I can give you 2840169 more.

Oryza sativa

Underneath the twinkling lights where everything seemed in motion he asked, "How do you feel?"
"About what?"
"This. All of this."
"Happy." I replied with the sincerest smile. Maybe my head was resting on his shoulder. Or my hand tried to reach out for his. Maybe not.
He repeated my single-word answer in disbelief. "Happy?"
"Content, if I should say."
He looked confused. I refused to force him to understand something I couldn't explain.

The pictures of my grandfather's late life my youth had always been overshadowed by started to fade away. His overthinking, his Alzheimer's, the emptiness reflected on those tired eyes before the Universe finally took him away; those curses I was certain would be mine when my time finally came.

The beat expelled the anxiety. Whether it's the heart's or the music's, I had nothing to worry about.
For once I no longer lived in the future.

There is this one funny episode of House, M.D. I watched recently.

[SPOILER ALERT]

The tale was about a genius who drugged himself to lower his IQ so that he didn't feel "isolated or lonely".
It's funny because he HAD to do that in order to communicate with his wife, who, according to him, "was so happy and dumb".
Funny, because when he got his gift back, he was no longer in love with the wife.
Funny, because it proves my theory that you have to be a fool to be deeply in love. OR, vice versa, you'll be one once you're madly in love.

But eventually,

Yea. Say it. "You cynical, cold-hearted b."
I get used to it.
